The Process of Becoming a Certified In Home Day Care Provider

When you are providing day care for a child whose parents work, you can do it as a free thing or you can become certified. Now for children who are on medicaid, WIC or Family Support, their parents can apply for a portion of that child care payment.

If you are providing child care in your home and would like to be paid, the best thing to do is go through the procedure of becoming certified.

I just recently checked all of this out. What I did was without knowing and understanding the procedure to follow, went about it backwards.

First you go to your local Office of Family Support and ask for the application to become a certified in home child care provider. I was given a 1 800 number to call. They did not ask for any information except my address. A few days later the application packet came in the mail.

This packet is several pages long. It includes a check list of all the things necessary to pass certification. On line you can go to this page for the legal documents detailing the rules and regulations.
